Dear Friends,

I’m so sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to you. I could make a dozen excuses, but it’s the same as all of you: work, friends, and life stuff. On top of that, over the past year I was constantly staring at a box filled with a thousand letters thinking, “My God, somebody help me!!!”

My daughter Cassie (13 yrs-old) has been on me weekly to “get off my butt” and start answering my fan mail. My son Mack (9 yrs-old) was a little easier on me saying “suck it up dad and get on it!” He even offered to take the letters to his school and have his classmates start writing back. I love their enthusiasm and how sweet they are to their old dad.

So, here I am, and you deserve an update as to what has been going on in my life. First, I’d like to thank my dear friend, and Cassie’s Godfather, John Travolta, for producing a movie that I am starring in on the Movie Channel this spring and summer called BARHOPPING. It also stars Tom Arnold, Kevin Nealon (Saturday Night Live), John Henson (E-Talk Soup), Nicole Sullivan (Mad T.V.) and Kelly Preston. I’m very proud of the film and my work in it, and for those of you who have had a chance to catch it, I look forward to your response.  You can see it again this summer on Showtime.

As you may know, the Olsen Twins are doing a new series for Saturday morning Fox Channel titled, SO LITTLE TIME.  I appeared in two episodes as the Vice Principal (Sweathog to Vice Principal?) of the girl’s high school and have written an episode. I’m very excited about continuing to write for the show and hopefully directing episodes for the series in the near future.

Speaking of the Fox Channel, I have a television project in development called DADDY DAZE. We are hopeful it will be made into a series over the next six months. It’s the story of three single dads’ and their Daddy weekends. (Write what you know!)

You can still catch me daily on CAGNEY & LACEY on TNT along with reruns on DREW CAREY, DIAGNOSIS MURDER, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, NEWS RADIO, and maybe even an old LOVE BOAT. Also, KOTTER is still scheduled to come on Nickelodeon over the next few months, so look for it.

I’m very excited about being an instructor at Brooks College in Long Beach. I’m teaching English Composition and Public Speaking on a part-time basis. I have one of my college degrees in Secondary Education, and it’s a joy to teach college. The upside to teaching college over high school is… “No detention!”

Finally, I just celebrated the big 5-0. Can you believe it?!!! I took the day off from work and went through two steamer trunks filled with everything from all my pictures to show biz memorabilia. It was a reflective and heart warming day. That weekend my girlfriend, Cindy, took me to the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego for three days of room service, tennis, the health spa and beach walks to work off all the good food. Honestly, it has been years since we have been able to take a vacation, and we had a wonderful time.

So, there you have it: the Cliff Note Version of what’s happening with me, and I look forward to hearing from you and your friends in the near future. Please know that you can go to my Internet web site at

WWW. ROBERTHEGYES.COM to print pictures, articles and watch streaming video of my lastest feature film, BARHOPPING any time you please. I’ll also be putting up sequences of some of my favorite KOTTER episodes and guest starring appearances soon.  I have an E-Mail address there and just sign in on the guest book to receive updates as to what’s happening with Bob!

I truly love you all. On behalf of my entire crew of six, Cindy, my extended relations and loved ones:  Thank you for writing.
